Job Overview

JOB POSTED 21 hours ago
JOB TYPE Internship
Job Description
We are family owned indoor hydroponic farm growing and delivering organic microgreens and herbs from our Berkeley farm directly to major grocery stores all around the Bay Area (Whole Foods and more). Come get in on the ground floor of this newly emerging method of farming!

This is a great internship for anyone studying horticulture, sustainable farming, environmental science or related areas. Or, if you are someone who has the desire to work in or start your own hydroponic farm, this is a rare opportunity to learn about the whole operation from start to finish. We offer 2-month & 4-month unpaid internships that will earn you a certificate of completion stating the areas of this field you have successfully learned.

We believe in starting from the end product, working backwards to learn cutting/harvesting, planting, crop maintenance, hydroponic equipment set up and much, much more. All interns start with a trial period, joining us on harvest days when we are packaging the end product. We take a limited amount of interns at any given time, so that we can give you the training needed. You will be working in small groups in a face-paced and very fun environment.

There is a very high demand for this unique internship opportunity. So, here’s how we find out if you and Local Greens are a good fit:

Contact us to schedule an initial 4-hour trial day usually held Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays.
If after this initial trial, you still want to apply for the program, you will schedule 4 more 4-hour shifts.
Once the trial shifts are completed you will be considered for the internship program.
A little tid bit…the last 5 people we’ve hired were all from our internship program.

You need to have genuine desire to work in alternative farming and a passion for environmental responsibility.
Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment where everyone works in all aspects of the operations as a team.
Be committed to working at least 10 hours per week for 2 months. This is the minimum amount of time it will take to give you a working knowledge of this kind of farming.
Look forward to learning about all aspects of urban indoor farming, from operating grow cycles to packaging product.
