Job Summary
Kairos Power LLC is seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead fuel performance modeling, analysis, and design of tristructural isotropic (TRISO) fuel for application to a fluoride:salt cooled reactor system. The candidate should have a strong background in the multi:physics effects of fuel irradiation and fuel performance. The ideal candidate would have experience with the integration of a fuel performance model in a multi:physics environment to understand effects of irradiation behavior on fuel performance and related design codes. Strong commitment to teamwork is required.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop performance model for design and qualification of TRISO fuel with integration in multi:physics models for reactor core design
Contribute to fuels:related analysis and mechanistic:based modeling for FHR conceptual design
Analyze existing and new fuels irradiation data to understand performance and guide fuel design and qualification effort
Specify requirements and contribute to design of fuel handling systems for fresh fuel inspection and for on:line inspection of irradiated fuel elements during on:line refueling
Ability to modify existing codes and models as well as generate new models based on reactor design requirements is required
Experience in benchmarking and performing code verification and validation is also highly desired
Other duties as assigned.
Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent
Years of experience: Nuclear or research laboratory experience preferred
Experience working in a laboratory or industrial environment on fuel performance modeling is required
Experience with irradiation behavior and performance of nuclear fuels is required
Experience with coding and modeling of fuel performance is required
Familiarity with TRISO fuel performance is a plus
Familiarity with UCO fuel behavior is a plus
Experience with applicable codes and standards is a plus
Proven team player with excellent verbal, written
communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills.
